Memorial Day at the Rutledges

Yesterday we had a lazy day on the patio. Dad smoked some ribs and chicken and brought it to our house to share. Carter got a rocket for Christmas and we decided that it was time to launch it!
Here are the "master minds" behind the project!
This works with baking soda and vinegar.
I missed the rocket in air... each time it took off quicker than expected!
Today was the first homemade ice cream of the season and it was DELICIOUS!!
Papa told Carter to name his rocket so he did-- Neptune Flyer!
Papa with the kids!
At my parents church they have several unused acres so this year my Dad and a few other men headed up a project to give families garden plots if their yards did not have space for one. I believe as of 2 weeks ago 92 families had taken advantage of the opportunity. They are also growing community corn to share and different families will give vegetables to staff who may not have time to do a garden of their own. I can't wait to see it, what an awesome idea! Below is Aubrey painting the sign for my parents plot!
An of course Memorial day would not be complete without a swim. The kids had a ball. Rusty and I have not been in yet this year!
It was a nice relaxing day!

What a great picture of Andrew by the pool. Carter did a great job naming his rocket, and Aubrey did a great job of painting the sign. What a great idea your dad and his friends had!
