Tonight on the way to church we were preparing the kids for the fact that we had to stay for 2 services. We do this once a month. We work at 5 and then usually take the kids with us to 7. During the conversation we were also discussing working at the Christmas Eve service. Last year Aubrey helped us in the nursery because there was no childcare for her age. This year she and Carter would have to go with us because childcare is only up to 1st grade. Andrew was suddenly feeling left out so he bursts out with... I know, I know, I can go help you too! I can because I can smell all the diapers, yeah that's a good job for me... smelling the diapers because I can tell you when they need to be changed! Yep... you guessed it... we busted out laughing!
We got the kids dropped off to their classes and then Rusty and I headed to the crawler room (Rusty and I got to work together tonight and we are usually separated with one of us on 2's and the other in 3's). It was such a blessing that out of our 7 children we had in class 3 were adopted. They represented a bi-racial domestic adoption and adoptions from Ethiopia and China. I think the Lord placed us in that room for a reason. When our time was ending our service coordinator handed me a book from he and his wife... The Voices of Rwanda. Since we were so early for the next service the kids and I quickly ripped off the plastic cover to see what the pages held. Amazing! It gives some background information on the genocide and then tells the stories of several children who were affected and where they are today and stories of children born after that awful time. It was full of pictures... of faces! The kids lit up with joy and began choosing which ones they would bring home to be there new brother and sister... I quickly told them the book was published in 2003 but none the less they had a ball. It stirred a new excitement and joy in us all! It is a treasured gift... much thanks to you~
