well worth our time

Our social worker had us read The Connected Child by Dr. Karyn Purvis for part of our adoption education. Rusty and I both read the book and thought it was good but we felt a little uncertain about a few things. Back in the summer I got an email from SHOW HOPE talking about an upcoming conference called Empowered to Connect and one of the keynote speakers was none other than Dr. Karyn Purvis. I bought tickets in June and we just spent Friday and Saturday at the conference. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! All I am saying is that if you are adopting I would highly recommend the book. Any doubt or skepticism we had was wiped away. The other speakers were Michael and Amy Monroe from TX. They have begun a HUGE ministry in their church and it was spread to 40 churches in their area. They have met with Dr. Purvis and have implemented her ideas with their own 4 adopted children. SHOW HOPE desires to run more of these conferences in the US and anywhere anyone wants to host one. When we began our adoption process we thought we would probably be traveling in September of 2010 and we know now that by attending this conference we would not have been as prepare to bring our children home as we are now... always looking for a positive reason to be "behind schedule". We have a lot to learn but learned so much in such a short period of time! A cool side note... Dr. Purvis has met with the First Lady of Rwanda and has been to Home of Hope Orphanage less than a year ago! One question we had was whether Dr. Purvis was a believer in Christ and we can assure you she is! There is a new study guide out that ties in scripture and to her book and you can download it free at www.empoweredtoconnect.com! Check out the book and the website... you won't be sorry! If you happen to be going to the Together for Adoption conference in TX in Oct. they are running a one day conference before the actual conference and it would be well worth your time to go... Dr. Purvis and the Monroes are also leading breakout groups during the conference.
