Building Pyramids

Today in History we learned a little more about Egypt and pharaohs and pyramids. It is amazing how much the kids retain when I have them narrate the reading for the day back to me and then especially when we do a hands-on project like making a pyramids. The book suggested making a mummy out of a raw chicken but ya know for now I thought the pyramid was a great idea!
Let's get started!
Everyone started with 55 cubes of sugar.
And Andrew waited all of about 2 or 3 seconds to try the sugar cubes. Some of you that know him well know that when you ask him what kind of treat or special surprise he would like he simply says, "something real sugary"! Usually without fail that is his answer. Today he was in dreamland eating and gluing sugar!
Carter started with 25 cubes on the bottom and is now working on a layer of 16 here.
Aubrey made a layer of 25, 16, 9 and now she is working on a layer of 4.
The end product!
When the the pyramids were made they were covered in white stone and thought to have gold caps on top. While I took a phone call the kids found the glitter and made some gold caps for their pyramids. We had a bunch of fun and called this a very successful day of home schooling! Thank you Lord!
