THE STONE DOOR

I got a call yesterday morning from my Mom asking if she and my Dad could take the kids over near Monteagle. They had heard of a mile hike called the Stone Door (an actual landmark) and since Dad had taken the day off they wanted to take advantage of the beautiful weather and get out. I had already started school with the kids for the day. I said yes, although it was a little reluctant on my part. They were to come at 11:00 and pick the kids up. They were going to lunch and then for the hike and then return home. Papa and Grammy got here right on time. I had cleaned out my car (it is bigger and thought it might be more comfortable for them to ride in), packed some snacks and was ready to send them on their way. I had already turned down my offer to go since the lawn needed mowing, the bills needed to be paid, the downstairs needed to be cleaned and laundry needed to be done. When Mom and Dad came in Dad casually said you know you can go if you want to, the day is going to be beautiful but there is no pressure do what you want to. Honestly no part of me really wanted to go before that moment, which is funny since I LOVE being outdoors. In fact to be quite honest when I got the call I was thinking why in the world are you guys taking a day trip when you could be cleaning the attic, doing work in the basement, flower beds or yard. And they both probably thought let your junk go and enjoy the day! Anyway, I decided to go. I would hate to have missed it after experiencing it. The grass will always need to be mowed, bill will need paying and the same goes for the cleaning and laundry. My Grandpa Ellison was ALWAYS saying "we are on the Lord's time". I never knew how right he was. I am learning to slow down and realizing that there will always be things that "need" to be done but time with the kids on a trail in the middle of nowhere is irreplaceable. We laugh at the credit card ads. We could have made one yesterday with Andrew when I allowed him to jump over the creek (which he landed in numerous time)!

Tennis shoes: $30
Trip to hiking trail: $10 (gas) The experience of getting your feet wet with your shoes on: priceless

I am so thankful for yesterday. Mom made a 2 mile hike which is a great accomplishment for her after the damage that was done to her leg almost 2 years ago in a car accident. I am thankful for time with the kids, my parents and viewing what the Lord put here for us to enjoy and marvel in. Thanks for a great day, Mom and Dad!

Here is a slideshow of our day!

I can't believe it has been 2 years since your mom's accident. What a great trip! Carter and Andrew are growing way too fast.
