my heart is changing

I have been doing some reading lately, if you know me well you that it is an unusual practice for me. I have come to realize that I am missing the true meaning of what it means to be the "hands and feet" of Jesus. I have realized how affluent we are in the US no matter how poor we think we are. We don't know what poor is. I am so wrapped up with self and the busyness of my life that my ultimate goal is usually not to see the kingdom of God come or see justice brought to the afflicted. It is time to bring glory to the name of God in all we do. I am ready to live more sacrificially than ever before. What does that mean? I don't know. We can begin in our house by treating everyone we meet as if they were Jesus. We can give more time and more money. We can cut "important" things out of our life to have more time and money to give. We are owed nothing. We have to learn what love is and how to have a love like Corinthians describes. I look at my life and realize that I know few people that have less than I do. And the ones I know I invest no time in. I need to be educated. People are being wiped off the face of the earth in large numbers due to HIV/AIDS. We live in a bubble here in the US. God began working in the hearts of Rusty and I about a year and half ago. We don't know what He has planned but feel like we are ready. It doesn't make sense (so we are told) that he has turned down jobs and positions offered to him but sometimes serving Christ doesn't "make sense" to most of us. We are increasingly learning to live by faith. We are finding our security in our Lord and Savior. We don't expect to be free from hard times but we have a God that can't love or care for us any more than He already does. We can rest easy in the fact. The next thing we have learned is that we just have to take a step. There will be no hand delivered letter from the Lord giving us instructions on our next step. We are called to make things happen and be bold about it. We have tried to help ourselves long enough and now it is time to help others. If you want to know some of what I have read here you go:

For the most part this is a lot of rambling. My heart aches for those without a voice, especially orphans. We can make a difference! We are called to make a difference!

JOB 31:16-23
16 "If I have denied the desires of the poor
or let the eyes of the widow grow weary,

17 if I have kept my bread to myself,
not sharing it with the fatherless-

18 but from my youth I reared him as would a father,
and from my birth I guided the widow-

19 if I have seen anyone perishing for lack of clothing,
or a needy man without a garment,

20 and his heart did not bless me
for warming him with the fleece from my sheep,

21 if I have raised my hand against the fatherless,
knowing that I had influence in court,

22 then let my arm fall from the shoulder,
let it be broken off at the joint.

23 For I dreaded destruction from God,
and for fear of his splendor I could not do such things.
