operation christmas child

The 1st and 3rd Friday of each month the kids attend an art class with other home schoolers. I usually drop them off and run errands but this past Friday the class did something a little different. We met at Dollar Tree and purchased items to fill shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child (Samaritans Purse). The kids each had their own box and filled it with everything from personal hygiene products to schools supplies to toys. If you have never heard of or participated in this it is worth checking out... this was our first time. There are different drop off locations and you can choose to pay the shipping if you like. If you do pay the shipping you know where you box ends up... it is tracked. We are excited to see if our 3 end up in the same country or different countries! The kids still did art by decorating the outside of the boxes. The kids hearts were full that day. We watched several videos of kid receiving the boxes and I think there was a bit of understanding of how much we have and how little so many others have. Here are some shots from the day...

Aubrey and Carter picking out socks.
Carter, Harrison and Andrew finding school supplies.

The items are paid for and we are ready to go decorate our boxes!

Busy at work with paints, colored tape, markers...

spray adhesive and wrapping paper...

The boxes are decorates and filled so we pray for the kids who will receive them.

The whole group with Ms. Marlena the art teacher!

We love participating with Operation Christmas Child! We'll be heading out this week so J & J can do their own shopping. Jacob's choices are always practical and then there's Jack....I always feel a bit sorry for the child who gets Jack's box! But then again, what child doesn't love a roll of duct tape and silly straws.
