uncovering fear

If you have been following our story of adoption you know that we have decided to take our children with us to Rwanda. Aubrey and Carter can't wait... they truly couldn't be more excited about going. They want to see the orphanage, see the country, see the wildlife and much more... they talk about it all the time. And then there is Andrew, who has been very undecided about going. He will tell us that he wants to go but he is just not sure. He has said they may not have peanut butter (a staple for him) and other things like that. A few nights ago we discovered the real fear... FLYING. He told us he wants to see Rwanda and meet his bother and sister right away but he just doesn't want to go in a plane. We questioned him further and he said he was scared we might get in a storm and even asked about the 9-11 attacks on the twin towers and more what-ifs. It broke my heart! We have had lots of discussion about terrorism lately due to the new Muslim training center going up in our town, it has been very controversial. I am thankful that this fear is on the table and I am thankful that he seems much more confident in going after we talked. It was a great reminder to me that I have to know the hearts of my children better than I do... part of that is slowing down and giving them undivided attention... not just being in the same room and not just a simple how are you but I am striving for the cup of hot cocoa, snuggled on the couch having a heart to heart with each of my kids on a regular basis. Thankful tonight for the revelation in our home:)

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

I 'm with you, I love it when these moments happen. And then I wonder how many of them I miss, cause usually they aren't a regular occurrence. I always need a reminded to take time to really listen to my kids, they talk alot and I seem to listen so little.
Praying for you guys as you are waiting for some news and progress!!
