An afternoon adventure

Who needs a science book when your backyard is alive with life? Rusty came home for lunch today and somewhat disrupted our school day, we all just got distracted. Due to the distraction (helping him move trailers) we found a few things. First was the frog you see below. He was hiding under some lumber that we had to move.
While Aubrey was making it a home Carter noticed a butterfly and chased it across the yard. We ended up seeing several different kinds.
It is said that we should tell our children about the birds and the bees but maybe it should be the birds and the butterflies!!
Carter was able to catch the Monarch and one other type of butterfly.
We left the butterflies on the patio as we were all running off excited about our next find and while we were gone Tiger was doing some investigating!
Our next find! Yep, under some lumber we were moving!
We let it go pretty quickly after capturing it.
After the outdoor excitement died down the kids shelled peas for dinner.
Pick some other veggies...
Aubrey first watermelon! We have watched this grow daily!
Love the half paint fingernails with dirt in them? She is her mother's daughter!
There were a few things learned today.

1. Never be frustrated by distractions. Make the most of them with a joyful heart and you never know what fun could arise!
2. We seriously need a terrarium at our house, ready to hold the next thing we find flying, crawling, hopping or slithering in the backyard.
3. We need some field guides. We have one for birds and have used it a ton. Now we need one for insects, amphibians and so forth!
4. God created many things for us to enjoy. All we have to do is slow down, enjoy them and then thank Him for the great things he gives us!
5. Every moment can be a learning experience all the while building a stronger and closer family.
